Stop Wasting Clicks: The 3 Most Common Google Ads Mistakes
Google Ads can drive new business quickly — but it can also burn through your budget in days if you’re not careful.
The truth? Most small businesses aren’t failing because Ads don’t work. They’re failing because of a few avoidable mistakes.
Here are the top 3 I see again and again:
Mistake #1: Not using negative keywords: Without negatives, your ads show up for irrelevant searches. Example: a plumber paying for “plumbing jobs near me.” That’s someone looking for employment, not hiring. Every irrelevant click eats into your budget.
Mistake #2: Sending ads to a generic homepage: Your homepage is about you. Your landing page should be about the problem you solve. If your ad promises “emergency AC repair,” don’t send them to a homepage with 10 different services.
Mistake #3: Over-relying on broad match keywords: Broad match gets you volume but rarely intent. You’ll show up for searches that sound similar but don’t lead to conversions.
These three mistakes are why small budgets vanish quickly. The good news
They’re simple to fix:
Add a list of negatives every week
Create landing pages tailored to your ad promises
Use phrase or exact match with clear intent
🚨 PSA: If you only read the free version, you miss the real stuff.
My best strategies live behind the $5/month paywall, where I can be real, show numbers, and teach without fluff.
